Thinking of heading there in June. Can anyone who has been there tell me...
    - is the beach in Nice sandy?
    - are there other beaches along the coast that are sandy?
    - is it particularly expensive to eat and drink in Nice?

Just back from Nice. The beach is awful and you will not be spending much time there! However the bus service in Nice is brilliant and it is not hard to hop to a close by town that has lovely beaches. The problem with Nice is there is too many places to eat. Have a walk around and you will find great places that a very inexpensive. Try old town as there are loads of little restaurants. Its much cheaper then Dublin. Have fun.

If you can get to Ville Franche you should! it is beautiful!! I'd recommend Monte Carlo, Monaco as well and check out the casino while you're there.

Definitely take the time to wake up early and do the flower market in Nice, absolutely gorgeous. Pick yourself up a loaf of fresh baked bread and have a stroll through all the colourful flowers. :)

    (No, I'm not a hippy) ;)

    Thank you all.

Have found an apartment in Menton which is nice and cheap! AFAIK there is a train that runs through there and goes along the coast - will hop on and find a beach and also just visit Nice and Monte Carlo rather than basing ourselves there.

Cannes and St. Tropez are also lovely places to head to on a day trip from Nice!

Lots of nice sandy beaches between Nice and monoco.

The old town and around the flowermarket is teaming with restaurants and is lively at night.Theres a good large and popular Irish bar on the south end of the flowermarket as you head back towards square and the coast.
