Ok, so about an hour and a half ago, 57 people (at least) were killed in Pakistan in a suicide bombing.

    Yahoo News are reporting it.
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060411/ap_on_re_as/pakistan_bomb;_ylt=AnDs8YdGdHhrkjV5plgL6Ies0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--

RTE news are reporting it (on the website, at least)
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0411/pakistan.html

BBC news - not a thing.
Sky news - not a thing in the 1am headlines.

I find this very interesting. I've always suspected that it's not what you're being told it's what you''re NOT being told. Especially when people complain about American news stations not covereing much world news resulting in American's being labeled igorant regarding world affairs. And yet the same thing happens here - are we just as bad...?

Now had it happened in Baghdad, different story!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    BBC News Online

EDIT: Actually, this seems to have been from earlier in the evening, unless the OP is mistaken in his times, or the Beeb got there well before anyone else. Which would be strange, because the RTE site can usually be slow to respond to anything bar massive breaking news.

Sky is researching the matter thoroughly prior to reporting it.

    .......bwahahahahahaa!

Hmm... I seem to be mistaken... although it wasn;t on the BBC news homepage at 1am. Don;t have BBC news 24, so can't tune in there....

It wasn't prominent on the UK Edition homepage, and it ranked third on the International Edition homepage.

RTE are worse for censoring stories tbh especially the fact that we are such a small country means they have more influence and control. I've heard personal stories regarding a former taoiseach being directly censored by vested interests in RTE.

In general, ownership of news broadcasters is limited with many networks being owned by the one company. News doesn't always come unfiltered. It goes through the eye witness, the reported, sub editors then editors etc. Although they may all try to be unbiased, there is no denying they have beliefs and views attached that might be subconsciously involved in broadcasting the news.

About the specific story, the sheer amount of violence in Pakistan and Iraq particularly have made most stories coming from there appear banal and mundane.

totally agree with this, and its not just broadcast media. i always laugh when the irish times calls itself the paper of record and wonder exactly when did they break the story about CJ 's millions:confused: oh thats right it was phoenix magazine.although in fairness they did cover the irish ferries dispute fairly well, but then again they werent owned by the owners of irish ferries like lets say the evening herald and the irish independant ,who coincidently barely covered the issue at all, strange that :)

even the father pain paedo story was broken by a foreign tv station (UTV) before RTE got involved. And dont start me on the riots a few weeks back, Newstalk106 covered the thing from begining to end ,and the national broadcaster which gets our liscense fee for public interest broadcasting? they did about 1mins worth and then went back to their sports coverage! a fecking RIOT was ongoing on the main throughfare of the capital city live, and theyre talking about a fecking football match:rolleyes: i swear to god scientist could announce that a meteor was gonna hit dublin in 30minutes and RTEwould wait till after marrian finucane to announce it!

I remember last year a friend of mine was reading a news story on Google.. it was about some woman being killed. Half an hour later, he went back to the website, but the article had been deleted straight away.
