    Howdy all.

Turned on the computer this evening and now have the following problem:

Almost all text has become just a collection of symbols, x's, squares, triangles etc. The Start button now displays 5 symbols, all properties, dialogues etc the same. Internet text is fine, but thats bout it. Ran full anti virus scan with no luck, but does seem quite virus like.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    David

Sounds like your font cache is corrupt. Try downloading TweakUI and using its "Repair Fonts" option.

    OP, Did you try running
    • Ad-Aware (in safe-mode)
    • Spybot (in safe-mode)
    • Windows Defender (in safe-mode)
    • Scandisk (to fix bad sectors)

    It could be:

Corrupt font cache (like Stark said above)
    Bad graphics driver
    Failing graphics card

Aye the repair font in Tweak UI should do the job, also rebuild icon cache (i think) too. What version of Windows are you running?

did you do any formatting or upgrading of OS recently?

a while back i upgraded my OS from win98se to XP.I had two harddrives connected to the computer.during the upgrade the free space on the second harddrive got converted to NTFS with the used space remained FAT32. whenever i added files, after the upgrade, to that drive old files got replaced with symbols similar to what your describing.triangles and stuff.

Try going into Control Panel, Display, Appearance, Advanced, and set any Items that have a font to "Tahoma" or "Arial".

    It is what it's.
