so i got a 80gb maxtor HD and few weeks back i had problem finding files etc anyway long story short i downloaded a few programs to see what was wrong and i got an error message saying bad sectors failure immenant blah blah blah.

so now i'm running HDD regenerater 1.51 and it's fixing the sectors bit by bit. the problem is the program keeps freezing so i need to restart my comp every few minutes.

if i knew what sectors were fecked i could just start the scan from there and hopefully give me some time to back up my data before it all goes tit's up.

is there any programs that can do that or does anyone knows why HDD regenerater is doin that??? cheers

first of all, i'd HIGHLY recommend you STOP running that program RIGHT NOW. (capitals for extra effect).

Copy off all important documents immediately. That HD is a more than likely a gonner. By running your regenerator program, you are increasing the possibility it'll just fail completely and remove any chance of recovering anything.

Once you manually copy off all you can, then run your regenerator program if you really want to try and get anything else off it. Personally i'd just round-house kick that thing into the nearest bin. If it's that bad, then it's on the way out for good.

cheers Mutant yeah i got all the important stuff off it no problem it's just got mp3 folder on it that well i don't want to lose yet can't copy them at the minute.

i've found and fixed a few sectors ussing that HDD thing now on it and it's lettin me into the mp3 folder now which is nice!

although if it does crash and burn i'll round house kick it to next week!
