Watty! You mentioned a few weeks ago an upgrade to be carried out to the Woodcock Hill transmitter. I think you said it would become a transmitter rather than a relay for Maghera.

Has it happened? Any noticable improvement on reception?

When Woodcock Hill came on air RTE 1 and 2 were in the 50's when it came to channel numbers and the picture quality was noticably better. It annoyed me when RTE changed down to 39 and 42 I think the was a power reduction as well. Some years ago now.

From an old list RTE1 was Ch48 and 2 was Ch52
From the following it opened in 1990:

Limerick leader Saturday, June 24th, 2000 looks back to 10 years previous:
ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED ON UHF
THE RTE offices in Lower Cecil Street are this week opening an advisory service on the new "super reception" available to television viewers from the UHF relay station on top of Woodcock Hill.
The offices, overhead the AIB headquarters at Bank House, O'Connell Street, are open from 11.00 each day to advise the public.

Spotted this today on Aertel 2 Page 530:

    RTE TECHNICAL INFORMATION

    TRANSMITTER SITE: Woodcock Hill and
    Limerick.

There will be a complete outage of the
Link system between 09.00 and 17.30
    on 24 May.

Transmission on Lyric fm will not be
    affected.

Whats happening here? All radio stations from there off for the day except Lyric FM (hardly)

Its a 100W per channel. Which is main limitation. 1kW or 10kW per channel would be good.

Also not at top of ridge so the point where the Radar is shadows Shannon and possibly even Hurlers Cross / Bunratty is not too hot.

It does suit Limerick City well apart from the Eastern part of Rebogue which is shadowed slightly by part where Scout Hall is.

I'm getting 4 good pictures with aerial 7ft off ground 12.5km from woodcock. It is very poor on TV3 and much weaker generally from chimney dur to 60ft tall trees. Just above the back door "sees" under the trees.

I'd imagine when the Link is off it goes back to Off air of Maghera, but I don't know.
