Has Sky disabled older FTV cards?

    Hi All,

I posted a while back about problems with my Grundig box, but it now looks as if it was in fact the card (after me buying a new box on e-bay ). The card is a UK FTV card in an Irish ex-sub box.

Basically, whenever the card is in the box, a simple change of channels results in the box crashing. Even turning on the box has this effect (well, going from stand-by to on). Take out the card, and the box works perfectly (sans Ch4 and Channel 5). This used to happen on average once a week, it has becoming more frequent since Christmas.

Does this make sense? Has sky disabled the older FTV cards? (reckon my card is approx. 3-4 years old, has the house on it).

    Tom! You maybe right.

Here in the UK I received a new issue Card about 12 months ago. I can't rember the reason Sky gave but I had to insert the new issue card then phone Sky to have it activated. I'm sure all customers were affected.

Maybe someone knows why the re-issue happened.

    Tom! Just found this.

It is down near the bottom 'Series 1 Cards Switched Off'

    Hope this helps.

Original switched off cards are pale blue.

The current working cards are dark blue with a yellow house. If your card is like that, it is broken or deliberately turned off.

Any idea how one would break a viewing card? It was rarely taken out of the slot. Also, the card is the dark blue one with the house - I didn't think Sky were disabling them, or are they?

No they are OK, except if the person that it was posted to reports it broken, lost or stolen, in which case Sky turn it off and send out a new one (Used as basis of a scam).

Flexing, bad static, immersion in water, sissors :)

A quick update - I tried the FTV card in my new Pace digibox and it works fine, Channel 4 and five are available as is that ultimate of tabloid TV muck, Sky 3.

So it looks more like the combination of the Grundig box plus the FTV card was the problem - the Grundig works fine without the card. Strange.

Try update of the Grundig box. Hold backup button on box while reconnecting the mains plug. Hold button till all four LEDs go on. When only Power is at Red Standby it is finished.
