Stamping claim may see O'Driscoll miss semi-final

    11/04/2006

Scottish side Border Reivers have referred their claim of an alleged stamping by Brian O'Driscoll to the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU).

The club are claiming the Leinster and Ireland centre committed an alleged stamp on Nikki Walker during last Friday night's Celtic League match at Netherdale.

Reivers' press officer, Stuart Martin this morning confirmed that any decision on whether or not to cite O'Driscoll will be taken by the SRU.

"We have referred the matter to the Scottish Rugby Union and they have until 5pm today to make the decision on whether or not to cite the player involved," said Martin.

If O'Driscoll is cited he could miss the Heineken Cup semi-final clash with Munster at Lansdowne Road on April 23.

This would represent a blow to Leinster as O'Driscoll's partnership with Gordon Darcy is one that will have the Munster camp worried.

Leinster won the game against Border Reivers as their preparations for the Lansdowne Road tie intensify.

Munster have their final run-out before that big clash when they host Edinburgh in the Celtic League at Thomond Park on Saturday (7.30pm).

Of great interest in that game will be the centre partnership that Munster opt for given the continued absence of the injured Barry Murphy.

Tomas O'Leary has started Munster's last two games at 13 but Mike Mullins along with Rob Henderson will be in the frame for the semi-final clash.

Actually i am really annoyed that Murphy is missing the match for that reason. would be nice to have a match where neither side can sit there after and go "well, we were missing blah blah and blah so...".

actually whats horans current state? i know he's missing out on training - i assume he'll be back in?

As for BOD, silly, silly boy. seriously, thats just so goddamn stupid. wonder what shuffle they could do if worse comes to worse... - bring horgan in and use who on the wing?

Don't think BOD will be cited.

In fairness trash, we're missing more than just Murphy.

72 hours is up an not cited...too late now.

BOD lives, but I agree he is cuttign it close happened a while ago also.
One would not be surprised if the powers that be in the ERC made a friendly phone call to discourage the citing. They would lose the competitions top draw on the big day after all.

that was a load of crap, just gutter journalism from the examiner. if they had researched it they would have found this:

    IRB Byelaws
According to paragraph 17.10.2 of the IRB Byelaws (November 2004) (applicable to the Celtic League by virtue of Paragraph 1 of the Celtic League Tournament Rules) the SRU had 48 hours from the end of the match on Friday to cite.

A slight in accuracy hardly makes for "gutter journalism" !
I actually heard the same info from Off The Ball and news on The Right Hook.
They cannot be called " gutter"!
"Guttert" Almost a tabloid over statement I think Sundy...Ironic eh.;)

yeah maybe a bit harsh alrite, but its a bit lazy of the press when even the man on the street can find out the truth and they still report the story
