    not sure if this is the right thread but i've just formatted a partition of my external harddrive and i'm after formatting the wrong one is there anyway of getting the information back again.

    Not easily, Files that were deleted can be recovered with certain software, But a HDD that was formatted could only be recovered by a Data recovery specialist I think....

    yeah data on a HDD is nearly always recoverable, just depends on how much you want to pay to get it back. I don't think you'll be able to do it yourself.

    thanks for the offer, bought a program today that retrieved the files just took a half an hour to recover 40 gig of files amazing.

    yeh there is software (used to work for a company that produced it) but as was said... you will have to pay for it.. if you have only just formatted it and not written anything to the drive then shouldnt be a problem recovering it

    the problem is if you use the /u switch in dos ;)

    but as long as nothing has been written to disk after... then it shouldnt be a problem recovering
