Water pipe question

My water supply has sprung a leak and I've found out that my pipe supplies my neighbours house as well.

Council have advised me that they think she's liable to pay half the fixing costs/replacement costs. Anyone know if this is true?

I didn't cause the burst pipe, in fact it burst literally under my boundary wall (with the path, not with my neighbour)

Not looking for legal advice, just curious if anyone has been in a similar situation.

    Thanks.

Certainly with a blocked sewer, you would share the cost, not sure about a water main.

Whose wall? Yours alone (witht he council) or shared with that neighbour?
