Can (Should) insurance companies be brought to court because of discrimination against men.I just got an insurance quote online for 2336 euro but if i was a women it would only be 1027.

You could try but I don't reckon you'd win, there are a small number of boy racers ruining it for the rest of us!

No. It's statistically proven that it's more expensive to insure male drivers which justifies the higher costs. You wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

The OP has a point however, in certain European countries (I believe Scandinavian - not sure exactly which) quotes for men and women must be the same...

    s. 5(2)(d) of The equal status act protects them as long as they have statistical or actuarial data to backup the differance in quotes.

I'm sure there would have to be regulation within EU nations on that though.
Maybe not actually, I know it's the IFSRA (Irish Financial Services Regulation Authority) which would imply that there is no European standards on said insurance issues. I'm open to correction on that.

Back on topic, I know people can manipulate statistics to further their own agenda, but there can be no disputing the FACT that more accidents involve young male drivers per capita, therefore vindicating the insurance companies in their higher premiums for young males.

So taking this to an extreme (in theory) if there was conclusive statistical proof that Asian people are less likely to drive over the limit etc. would that justify higher prices for everyone else. Or if people of a Black ethnicity cause more crimes then they should be given higher penalties? Seems like racial profiling to me (or sexual profiling in the insurance case).

The above scenario seems unlikely but consider this more likely scenario - health insurance for black people are higher because statistically they are more likely to get heart disease and die etc. Is this allowed by statute/the Constitution etc.?

So if there was a tragic accident where it just so happened a few thousand women were involved and not one man (like here;)), would their insurance go up or would ours come down?
