Im thinkin of getting one of these,

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&oc=N04135B&rbc=N04135B&s=dhs&sbc=iedhsrsinspn_1300_2

its 540 if you only take 90 day warranty

I want to get it mostly for editing and viewing photos on the go, i have a desktop for storage but wud like to have the dvd burner to make back ups

just wondering if people think this laptop would be good/fast enough for editing and viewing photos

and also would the screen be good enough resolution/sharp enough

At the moment im using an old dell desktop 400MHz 128MB RAM so this laptop would definately be much better especially if i put in extra RAM myself, im just wondering should i hold off for a while and buy a better laptop in a couple of months time when ive hopefully saved up a bit more

short answer; no. I wouldnt waste my money on such a low spec'd laptop.

Better off saving up to be honest. No point in buying it if you can afford a better one in a few months.

The laptop would be alright for just that, but I agree with the above... I wouldn't waste money on such a low spec machine either if you can afford something better in a few months. For about 1000 euro you can get a decent enough laptop. I have a 3 year old laptop myself (AMDXP2000+ 1024MB RAM) and I can run Photoshop CS2 on it, the screen is as clear as my 19" desktop TFT. You just need a lot of patience... the loading is pretty slow and I assume that only gets worse with even less RAM.

that 400 ya got... would take an age to display a picture , let alone edit even with double the ram, I've a 500 lappy and pretty much use it for web browsing and viewing.
as for the other depends what sort of editing. pisassa would run on it ok, photoshop would struggle, and the hd is quite small too, ya'd realisticlly need to triple the ram, up the processor and double the hd for a reasonable preformer

Just was kinda thinkin i might be better giving my money to Mr. Canon than Mr. Dell

Im editing using the PhotoShop 7 on the 400 at the minute, can be fairly slow but it does it somehow, doesnt crash as much as it used to for some reason too

I've got that laptop. It's absolutely fine for viewing. If you want to edit, you'd definitely want to add some memory. After that it depends on the package you're using for editing.

But getting a better laptop when you don't need the additional performance is a waste of money. Invest what you save in a better camera/lens/whatever.

But why pay for extra ram/memory etc if you can get it all in one go! Might be a bit more hassle free! ;)

And Mr. Canon can wait...he always waits...
