Rooney,some more bad PR for Poker

The papers are having a field day today.For anybody not aware Wayne Rooney lost a £25,000 car to a Manchester United pal in a poker game,but this is tied up with more substantial loses of over 1 million sterling.

This could not come at a worse time for the poker community,I can see the ultra conservatives setting there sights on us a bit more now.

But, as both the sums being gambled and the losses incurred by Rooney began to rise alarmingly, he handed it over to bookie Stephen Smith, who handles some of his business interests.

So Rooney owes Owen a rake of money, says enough of that, go to this bookie instead, Im not covering you anymore. And Rooney does so and loses another boatload.

Bloody shít-stirring tabloids. i never believe anything I read in them. It could be complete bull, it could be true, who knows but I never give these sort of stories a second thought.

This is a harsh reality which many beginners find hard to accept, you are crap when you start playing and will inevitably lose money in the long run unless the deck repeatedly hits you in the head everytime you sit down at a table.

sounds like his other losses were sports betting, possibly where some of the lads convinced him to be the bookie and he lost. at some point he passed on his bookie role to a real bookie, but they still lost to the punters, and the bookie wants rooney to pay those debts.

so, proper journalism could separate the poker from the bookies, if they wished.

Unfortunately a lot of people do not look at the wider picture,such as how much Rooney earns in a year.They just hear poker and lost car and come to the conclusion that poker is bad,and if there brother/sister plays they could lose there car.

Its story's like this that get poker a bad name.We can do our best to change the image of poker but some peoples opinion's are set in stone.

I would love to get an invite to this "poker school",the other half has a punto I would not mind losing but with rooney playing I think the punto would be safe.

Anyone else when they were reading about the regular poker game between the incredibly wealthy and unfeasably stupid human beings Ferdinand, Brown, and Rooney have an out of body experience imagining getting into that game? I'll wager pounds to pennies that Phil Bardsley won the car with middle pair at best I mean how does one even lose a car in a poker game these days?
