Fake Tan for Holiday

Ìs it ok to use a fake tan for going away on holidays?

Years ago I used the sunbeds to get a base but that was before I realised how dangerous they are.

I dont want to look really "pasty" for the first few days and I was thinking of getting a spray on tan but I'm worried that it will look terrible because I love the pool and the sea...

Has anybody used fake tan for their holidays and how did it turn out after the pools/sea/showers??

Any fake tan you wear will come off quickly and patchy with salt water so for the first few days stick to the pool until you get your tan and the fake tan wears off properly.

Years ago I used the sunbeds before I went on holidays but I wouldnt go near them now and I was hoping that I could wear the fake tan to stop me looking so milk bottle like!!

    Is there any other way??

Yeah, I had the St. Tropez done professionally (not the spray but the lotion)before a holiday to Lanzarote last year. The secret is to be exfoliated to within an inch of your life and the cream lasts better in salty water! Got it done in Nuala Woulfe's in Sandycove, they really are experts in their field. A little bit on the expensive side but worth it. Enjoy your hols ;)

would your sun lotion and fake tan not interfere with each other in some way?

surely the chlorine in the pool water is a worse culprit at removinf fake tan than seawater?

Fake-tanning before holidays? Are holidays supposed to be time off, relaxation?

It's amazing! Really natural looking since it builds up gradually, and cheap. I love it.

Chemicals for the skin age them like prematurely, so why not take the plunge and get exposed to sun, enjoying skin cancer when old and over-the-hill, like you're going to die of something anyway, so why not suck up some vit D while your ageing yourselves?? Surf's up!!

yep, i love it too....i'd go for that. real;ly easy to apply , and u can stop when u get the shade you want , and then top it up as required.

on second thoughts...not sure how well it would be with salty water though

I reluctantly used it last year after coming home from Tenerife and I couldn't believe the difference it made... it even got rid of my strap marks... it preserved my tan for weeks...

    Thanks for all your replies!

I dont like using the Johnson's holiday skin as it's very greasy feel off it but I have just bought the new Dove version and I love that.

I have only used it twice so far and it has a lovely colour to it so I will keep at that, plus my skin is super smooth from it!!

    Thanks again!!

I think you should use a sunbed instead, even though you said you don't like them. Why?
    1. Well, because if you use a sunbed it'll give you a natural protection of the sun, the skin having started to pigment naturally already before you hit the beach.
    2. It looks real, not ganguro.
    3. With a sunbed you can decide exposure time on face and body and over a couple of sessions build up a proper tan.
    4. It's not chemicals...

Of course I never used bottle stuff, it just seems wrong somehow. So feel free to shoot me down :p

My advice is go 4 a tinted moisturiser like johnsons or the new nivea one. they're not that dark if applied lightly + they don't change colour in the swimming pool. On the plus side if you tan slowly you can always apply more so you don't look pasty.
Spray tans last maximum of 3 days looking great + in chlorine turns literally black. They tend to go blotchy after showering too.
