World Trade Centre

Okay, there's another 9/11 related movie coming out this year. By the name of.. quite simply.. World Trade Centre. As some of you know, the other movie is one by the name of United 93 (formerly Flight 93)
The film follows the story of two Port Authority policemen who are trapped in the rubble during the rescue efforts and also focuses on their rescuers and their families, who are attempting to find out what happened to the trapped men. The film is a portrayal of how the human spirit rose above the tragic events of that day.

When I saw the poster for the movie, the same thoughts went through my head when I saw United 93 - "Yay, another flag-waving, Yeeehaw!" movie. I admit I might be a tad bit quick jumping the gun, but I shall reserve judgement until I see the movie.

It stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, Michael Pena, and Nicolas Cage
It is also directed by Oliver Stone. I am on the look-out for a trailer for this, and as soon as I can I shall post it here.

    Here is the official website

Hmmm, I like Maggie and I like Cage, and Stone's not too bad. I just don't think this is going to be anything but masturbatory.

It sounds quite predictable. Of course there was bravery on the day and lots of wonderful people were trapped in horrible situations and superhuman efforts saved some of them.

I think 9/11 is still a bit fresh in American culture for the big questions to be asked in a movie about why the attack happened and the appropriateness of the reaction. Another few years to get past the 'they hate our freedoms' clamour.

Having said that, Stone described the screenplay as "a serious meditation on what happened", so I'll happily eat my words if it lives up to his.

Does anyone know the Irish release date for either this movie or Flight 93?

I've seen these movies, they were on Sky News for months!
    Longest. Movies. Ever.

But seriously, I have about as much interest in them as I would in a film that was about Princess Dianas death.

It seems a bit early imo to be making a films about this. I worry how they go about it, but if its done in the right way and manner it could turn out to be good enough...maybe..

... and more recently: Alexander(!) and Any Given Sunday.

But you're right, he has made good films. There's just something I don't like about him as a director. Hopefully he'll do World Trade Center with the same honest as Born On The Fourth Of July (which I thought was great).

I saw Flight 93 during the week, it's engaging enough but is essentially a short story padded out with plenty of 'I love you soooo much' phone calls and a puke enducing recitation of the lord's prayer.

United 93 is a different film, or more likely the same film with different actors and differing interpretations of the 'jihad look' by the rent-a-muslims.

Cant say I like the look of World Trade Centre but United 93 looks more promising imo , 9/11 is probably going to be like Vietnam they'll be making films about it for years to come

I think United 93 is the Hollywood one. It was originally going to be called Flight 93, but was renamed after a TV movie with the same name was released (I suppose this is the one that Xtravision have?)

So they're not the same movie? I presumed they were.. having seen a trailer for the movie on the website entitled Flight 93, and a week or 2 later, the same trailer but this time entitled United 93.

It's strange; I can't find any trailers for WTC anywhere..
