Hey, I want to start playing the trumpet, but I have absolutely no clue where to begin. I figured the first thing I'd need would be a trumpet (Well done, I know), I was wondering if there are any brands to look out for or any shops that might help me, or anything else like that to look out for. Thanks.

    When in doubt, Thomann.

Generic own brand stuff, cheap as chips.

Great place to go have a look is Paul Ryan instruments in temple bar. It's up a bit towards dame st. from the IFI on the same side of the road as the IFI. I got a Beautiful Jupiter trumpet there bout a year and a half back, and it wasn't overly expensive for the quality I got.

I think the main things to look out for are the metal the trumpet is made of and the metal the lead pipe is made out of. I think the silver trumpets are more suited to classical orchestral kind of playing where the brass are a bit more all-rounder. The lead pipe is the pipe going from the mouthpiece to the first bend. Mines made of rose-brass, which is supposed to give it a warmer tone.

Yer man Paul Ryan, if ya catch him, is sound as, tho' he'd talk the ear off a donkey! He got me the number for lessons with a guy in my area and everything!
