    Hey
I just bought a new HD(200GB SATA 8MB 7200RPM-Serial ATA-150) and a contoller for it(Serial ATA-150). They are definitely compatable because Ubuntu has no problem installing on it. The problem is the Windows installation doesn't recognise it. Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks

First off have you got service pack 2 ( or service pack 1 ) because as far as I know winXP has problems with big drives if you dont have these service packs. ( LBA issue , winxp only sees 137GB without the service packs )

Second , are the correct drivers for the controller installed. Go into device manager and check , if you see a yellow sign on anything then you have a problem.

Next go into control panel and into disk management , see if the drive is listed here but described as unallocated , if this is the case then you need to format within WinXP and if you do make sure to pick FAT32 as NTFS has problems with Linux.

Have you told the BIOS you have a SATA drive? Not all pick them up without being set for them.

Windows setup doesn't have inbuilt SATA or SCSI support. You should have received a floppy disk with the drivers for the SATA controller. At the start of Windows setup, you'll see a prompt to press F8 (or maybe it's F6) to load third-party device drivers. Hit the key, and then insert the floppy disk with the drivers when prompted. The drivers will load, and XP setup will continue.
