Help choosing a camera

Hi all, I am looking to purchase a replacement digital camera for my Canon S50, which is after packing in less than two years after I bought it. It has had very little use it this timeframe also. As you can understand, I am a bit nervous about buying from canon again, but was I just unlucky with my S50.

The problem with it is there is a tearing noise coming from the inside of the camera, behind the lens. It will not allow me to take any pics but I can view the ones on the MC.

I seem to have narrowed my search for a replacement down to two cameras. I may have overlooked others, which I would appreciate other suggestions for you guys on here.

The two I am considering are the Canon Ixus50 or the Sony Cybershot DSC-P200

    Many thanks.

Meant to add, my budget is in and around the €300 mark

well i used to have a sony, they tend to over process their images a bit, while i'm currently using a canon ixus i, which is lovely, my advice is to try them both out in the shop and decide then. take pictures of similar things and compare.
oh and another bit of advice, photo challenge aint for advice, thats photography :p

Yeah, I copt that after I opened up the thread. I tried to delete it straight away and re open it in the photography section, but maxruby was quick of the mark with a reply for me, so therefore I could not delete post then. Maybe a mod may be able to move it to the appropriate section for me.

With regards to you suggestion and maxruby's comments, I really appreciate them and thanks for taking the time to reply. I will certainly try and try out both cameras before I decide.
