Just fro the craic, and since I've gotten a working KVM switch, I've decided to mess around with MySQL database's. Or any SQL type one's that you think business's use. Mainly, I'm looking for one that can hanfle requests from MS Access, and also from some command line based application.

Its been a while since I've done this sort of thing, so any handy pointers would be nice.

I'll be installing the server on one machine, and accessing it from another, using a webpage, a command line, and MS Access.

what platforms are you using? Linux or Windows?
I use IBserver myself as a Apache/MYSQL/PHP local platform on Windows.

Give your Server machine a fixed local IP, port forward if you want, and type the IP into a browser and you will have the localhost of the server in front of you. IBserver comes with PHPMYADMIN.

If you have problems with ODBC 3.51 in Access, switch to ODBC 2.50 which is an old but stable production-ready release.

I use appserve myself, it has a mysql db phpmyadmin etc.
