I'm looking for a really good quality pair of in-ear headphones for my iPod, Something not too expensive i.e less than €50. I was thinking about Shure or Sennheiser but they're very expensive.

    Any reccommendations? :)

sony fontopias are cheaper. I think some report easy breakages.

shure e2c are €70 delivered, I would recommend at least them.

my e3cs were 120 and if they were nicked I would buy them again right away. well worth the money, bet you would think nothing of spending €100+ on speakers and would not get as much use from them.

Definitely go the extra €20 for E2's, seriously. Just do:cool: I've had about 3 pairs of Fontopias which have stopped working, no sound in the right phone, same with my friend, he's had 2, and I've heard of people on this site with the same problem. Just go for the E2s:)

Have you got a link for that price? I'm generally getting £60 + delivery, which comes in well at over €100.

I'm a bit sick of my over the head Sennheisers, so a pair of nice in ears will do me nicely.

Here you go. Wind130 on Ebay, she has been used by many people on this site with no problems. My brother got his E2's off her without any hassle.

EDIT.... Hang on... That price seems a bit too good now, I think she may have become cheaper.. oh no... I forgot, shipping insurance of £9.80 is required. So it's:

    £17.65 (Earphones)
    £19.95 (Shipping)
    £9.80 (Shipping Insurance)
    ==================
    £47.40
    ==================
    EURO: €68.27

    Great deal:)

Yep wind130 is a great seller, I have bought many things from her, all 5 days delivery or less, and no customs worries either.

is it worth spending the extra 30e or so to go from the e2c to the e3g?

Pick yourself up a portable amp in the future and be prepared to be

judging from the forums, yes! you see many people selling e2cs, the reason given being that they are upgrading to the e3cs. I prefer the look of the e3cs and it is easier to get tips for it since the etymotic ones fit too. I have the triple flanges and they are amazing, perfect seal every time that NEVER fails.

any of you know the difference between the shure e2c and e2g?

Nothing, just the look and the name and the audience they are targetted towards. You see Shure created the E2's for audiophiles, not gamers and now want to get into the gamer market too:)

yea, the specs seem to be almost exactly the same

I can't see any E2's for sale from wind130 at the mo, the insurance is for the E3's? Maybe it's cheaper for the E2's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

i just read a review of the e3g's - and i think i'm going to have to get them instead - my poor bank balance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Have a look for a cheaper option, that insurance sounds nasty alright:(

If it's the cheapest option, it's still worth it;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

yea she seems to still be cheapest - by a good bit too

    wind130 £77.55
    nachy1818 £87.85
    gr-giant £126.76

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Yeah that's ok:) Good luck with them!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

I'm pretty sure the main difference between the e3c and the e3g is the length of the cord (e3g is shorter) and the colour.

just on the fontopia issue, what everyone is saying is damn true. i'm on my third set because the wire crumbles apart like a soggy biscuit. three pairs = €150 odd... so i'm going to be consulting everyone's ebay friend wind130 very soon :)

i will be too, once i clear this dam credit card bill i have at the moment.

think i'll go for some E3's i think they shall be a worthy replacement for my sennheiser mx500's which have done me well until they got a bit of water damage :(.

i remember looking at shure's before, is there any difference between the E3's and the E3g's? or are they the same but just trying to get gamers as mentioned above?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

i read a review of the e3g's the other day - said they were much better than the e3c's
    happy days
i'll see can i find the link

    http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review3355.html

    and
Edit 2/27/06 - We received a lot of inquiries regarding the difference between the E3g and E3c earphones. While we experienced a slight difference in bass between our two review units, Shure's PR department has released the following statement:

"In actuality, the E3g and E3c earphones are technically identical- there was no enhancement made to the bass response between the models. In order to complement portable gaming devices, Shure modified the exterior color of the earphones, shortened the cable length, and made over the product's packaging. You will only notice an increase in bass response when moving up the product line from the E3c (or E3g) to the E4c (or E4g)."

I've got the E2G's and they are incredibly good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

shortened cable length, hmm i'd have to see a pair before buying them online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

The unshortened one is dead long Cremo, for earphones anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

the c is supposed to be 1.5m and the g is 1.2m. I thought the gaming ones would be the longer ones to go into soundcard slots on a PC. I have the 1.5m and it is long, and I like it that way. I can put it in my PC card, I can put it in a back pack and it stretches around no problems. Handy especially after those really short iriver ones made for koreans/midgets

I got some e3g's delivered yesterday from Wind130 on Ebay. Only 3 working days for delivery from the states, which is pretty impressive. I'm having some trouble getting a proper fit on the earplugs, but I think with a bit of practice it'll become second nature.

It's very weird walking around hearing nothing from the outside world, especially if you're used to Senn PX100's like I am. The sound is a bit harsh, but I'm already hearing the benefit of running them in, as I've had them plugged into my stereo all night playing at a loudish volume, and they sound much smoother. A few more nights and they'll be lovely.

I'm thinking of getting custom made inserts for them. Is there anywhere in Ireland that will do them or will I have to go over to the UK to get them made?

Just found this thread on Google, and decided to bump.

I ordered from wind130 yesterday morning, for the first time, and was just wondering if she sends an email when the product is shipped, or does she just ship it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Its been a good while since I ordered but I'm pretty certain she'll email and confirm the item has been shipped

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 TGE

I hope so. It's my first time using both eBay and Paypal, so I'm just giving oversight to it going correctly.

    Isn't there a year guarantee?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

My Shure E2G's wires have crumbled too. Shure told me to feck off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭tywy

moral of the story is take care of your earphones I guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

just a question - if you buy headphones online (as most people on this thread have) are they still covered by the guarantee?

Yep just noticed mine are starting to crumble aswell. It seems to be becuase the wire is always bent around the ear?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yeah, it is. Stupid thing is, you have them around your ears then you have to unfold them to get them in the protective case
