Ok im gonna be playing bf2 halo and counter strike mainly so i need to know which card to pick.
The 7900gtx (All my pcs are nvidia so i'd go with this if possible)
or the x1900XT not xtx since speeds diff is minimal.
    Which should i go for?
    NO FANBOYISM PLEASE!
The rest of my pc specs are
    Athlon 4200
    2gb ram
Monitor capable of upto 1280X1024 if thats important.

Well from those games you mention you dont need the ultra high end parts unless you play at very high resolutions (e.g 1600x1200) with AA+AF on top as well.

The fact that you have a 1280X1024 max capable montior I would sugest a top of he line mid-range part you will be able to run all those games with max details.

Either an NVIDIA 7600GT or an ATI X1800GTO should do the job just fine

The 7600gt is a great card, it falls somewhere between a 6800gs and a 7800gt.

Some X1800GTOs can also be modded to a X1800XL, if your into that sorta thing:D

Both the top end cards are much of a much-ness right now.

I'd probably go with the ATI as its based off newer tech, and more geared towards future games.

Whereas the nVidia is optimised for todays games and runs very cool (comparitively).

That being said, the cards are about even now, so I reckon the x1900xt will be the more future proofed card of the two.

;) so the ati solution is the way to go but if i dont like it i can just return and change for a 7900gtx :D
