OK....help would be appreciated. I have a wireless router, Im using mac filter to access the modem and the access speeds are reading good at generally 54mbps AND the signal strength reads excellent no matter how close the laptop is to the modem...or how far ! Now for the science bit.....it takes AGES to open up a webpage...why?!? Whats slowing it down? The d/load speeds seems fine, Im not gung-ho on the encryption and the signal is fine so why the feck is it taking so damn long to open up a web page?? Incidentally on ethernet its rocket quick and no issues what so ever! Help !

Pings fine, just takes AGES to open a page over wireless, no spyware, running clean on mcafee scan....

    Using IE6....

What do you mean when you say you are using mac filter to access the modem? If you access the modem itself by wireless how long does that take?

Yea made perfect sense the first time, don't worry.

Edit: Oh and download firefox and see if that has the same problem with opening webpages. That way we can see if it browser or network related.

Is this download speeds using wireless or wired connection to router? If it's slow in general then it's a different problem from the OP and you should create your own thread (prob in Broadband forum).

sorry for the thread hijacking! ;)
Just slow with the wireless, grand using the ethernet connection.

We'll let you stay so! :p

Have you got latest drivers install for wireless card and latest firmware for the router? Your pings to the router (192.168.1.1) don't seem unusually slow but after that they are def slower.

    looks ok to me.

OK...when Im on wireless I cant even ping the router !! Network card can see the router and the signal strength is excellent but literally cant get the connectivity. The plot thickened today though when the wireless option worked for me for all of 20 mins and I could ping away....VERY frustrating!

Have you a firewall running? Zonealarm? Norton? Even windows firewall?

Shouldn't effect his ability to ping the router.

    paste ipconfig/all

Shouldn't, but can on occasion. Norton is well known for messing up network connections.

Check ur DNS settings on ur router

Im willing to put 20 euro down that ur primary dns is wrong

if u do a nslookup google.com it should take about a min to timeout
Then ull get a result from ur secondry dns

but if u ping the ip u eventually get it will work almost instantly

If ur still stuck and in Dublin PM me and for a cup of tea ill fix it
