Hey all, I'm looking to set up a tournament between 2 or 3 of our offices which are dotted around the country.
I've yet to enter competitions so I'm not familiar with all the formats, and as some offices are bigger than others I'm predicting that they're may be an unfair advantage...so whats the best competition format for making things equal?

Has anyone here organised anything like this before? If so what works/doesn't work? what are the pitfalls and big successes?

    Thanks
    Willy

invite everyone to play but only have 5 or 7 on a team.
sort of have an overall singles for everyone and then a team event at the same time for the preselected 5 from each office.
That way everyone plays and gets a day out.

The easies way to score is a stableford comp with the best 5 from 7 team cards counting, if you follow.....

yep I get ya thanks Dman. problem is some offices vary in size greatly so might have to group offices or do as you said above but use the top 4 instead.

about 50 quid, depends on the course.
Less is good but the more pleasurable the experience the better

For a very mixed field you cant beat a scramble.
Thats where you have a team of 3-4 and everyone hits a shot, you pick the best one and then everyone hits from there.
This continues until someone putts the ball in the hole and then thats your score.

It relieves the pressume from the less gifted but also lets them feel like they are taking part.

Agree that the scramble is best if there's a big mix of skills. Usually four to a team, with as big a spread of ability as possible. Handicap for the team is the average of the four players. Play is as Greebo says but usually with the proviso that at least three tee shots must be used from each player.

Throw in a longest drive and a nearest the pin and you have a fun day for golfers and hackers alike.

If there are going to be mainly golfers playing try this: Everyone goes around in groups of 4 marking cards as single stapleford. Back at base you decide a split point for handicaps, say 12 or 14, and divide the cards on that basis. Then pull a card at random from each pot to make pairs, add the scores and find your winner. The winning team isn't necessarily the two best golfers and the worst golfer still has a chance of winning, depending on who he's drawn with.
