Liability when two houses off same supply

    Hi,

recently had a burst pipe, my house also supplies my neighbour's place. Council have checked it, said it's my problem to fix it and I'm fine with that. Plumber has since told me that he thinks (is almost sure) that legally the fact that the pipe is on my property doesn't mean I have to pay to get it fixed, apparently my neighbour is liable for half the cost.

Anyone know if this is true? Don't want to claim it's the case to my neighbour and be proved wrong. Also am not going to go in all guns blazing, I'm open to paying the majority of the cost, but would like to be able to say: "Despite us both being liable to cover the cost, as it's on my land I'll pay most of it".

    Anyone know who is liable?
