    Make yourself a cuppa, then do a search for San Diego on this forum, and read.

    Okay. To begin with. Don't be surprised if you find it hard to find accomodation around the San Diego area, as alot of places are weary of letting Irish people stay there. We have gotten a bad reputation from idiots going over there and destroying the place. Some have these parties where on their last weeks, they ruin it.

    Alot of San Diego relies on summer employment, so you shouldn't find it too hard to get yourself some jobs. Morethanlikely your best bet is to try and get some employment in a shopping centre.

    There is a good enough nightlife around there, but if you are under the age of 21 I wouldn't advise you to even try. Even if you have a good ID, the risk really isn't worth it. As, depending on the strictness of the pub, there is a slim chance that you might be arrested. And if you get arrested, you probably wont be able to get back into America again anyways.

    The areas I would advise you to check out are;
    Pacific Beach - absolutely amazing sea-side town.. very surf orientated, home of the 19 mile Mission Bay. There are some very excellent CD/DVD shops around the area, and the world famous Buffalo Express clothes shop. Amazing prices on clothes! I bought a pair of runners that would have been about €100 for $19. Check out the thrift shops too http://www.pacificbeach.org/ for more info
    Old Town San Diego - If you are any way interested in history and culture, I would say to visit this place. It is a very interesting area, full of history and intrigue. Home of the famous Whaley House, the only haunted house officially recognised by the American government.
    Mormon Temple - This is a picture perfect temple. Exactly like something from a Disney movie. Though pictures wont do it justice, this is something you will have to see for yourself. A warning in advance; Don't be shocked if people come up to try and convert you to mormonisn. It happened to me 5 times in the space of 2 minutes. Ignoring their over-eagerness, this is something you should check out. http://www.carlsbadmission.org/images/sd_temple_bb.jpg for a picture, though it really is something you have to see for yourself
    Horton Plaza, San Diego - This is in the city of San Diego itself. It is possibly one of the most amazing shopping centres I have seen http://www.westfield.com/hortonplaza/ .

    Other areas of interest would be; UCSD, Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.

    Hope that was alot of help for you :)

    Also, I would recomend you buy the Lonely Planet's guide to San Diego. I found this incredibly helpful.. it details everything from areas of interest, things you should do, how to tip, but also gives detailed maps.
