Recently when I've tried to install software I had this problem. When I begin installing the software it gets to a certain point of installation and then shows an I/O error message saying it couldn't install because of this problem.

Does anybody have any idea what this means and how I can rectify it?

Note: It's only certain software that I've tried to install that I've gotten this message.

First thing I would do is run memtest+ and leave it run for an hour or two to see if it's a bad RAM issue.

Often but by no means always such a copy error is a symptom of corrupted RAM.
