    Yo,

Last summer I spent some time working on the notoruos "planche" push up. A few of the guys were interested in it as "the press up" and incredibly functional. So I thought I post this.

There are some other gymnastics moves in the vid as well.

So if people think the Martial Arts training they do is good for fitness, check this guy out. With the exception of Cabelo I can't imagine many of us can say our fitness is challenged in as many ways in MA training.

    Thoughts?

fitness relative to what activity ?

I hillwalk at weekends - miles and miles of hills - just cause i cant spin on my head - does that make me not have a level of fitness ?

love to see him walk with me one sunday !

love to see him hit a bag for a few minutes.

I think it is fitness to see some one do 1000 - 1500 thai kicks in a training session on the pads. daily!!!! sets of 100 kicks, after 1 hour of full on clinch work. and thats after a 10 km run .

    Now thats fitness!!!!

no its not me... I died somewhere just over the 400 mark.

Zen said he should have stickied his post on fitness in another thread. I agree completely.

    Maybe this will help...

Wow. I remember getting sent a low res vid of some Capoeira guys just messing about doing some similar stuff. Amazing.

I think a couple of people are missing the point of fitness versus sports specific conditioning. Yeah okay the guy might not be able to hit the bag hard (though you never know). However what I think you have to ask yourself is whether you think any martial artist would benifit from having his flexibility and awesome core strength as a supplement to their technique.

If you can rip thru the chin ups, I think you're fit. Look at fedor, looks a bit rotund, but he can rip through all that type of stuff.

Yeah, but chins are just representative of how strong your lats and biceps ( primarily ) are relative to your bodyweight.

For example, a 140 pound guy does 12 reps to failure? A 280 pound guys does 12 reps to failure? One is obviously stronger on that excercise but who is fitter???

    I'd judge it on speed.

Your completely missing my point. You can't apply any level or cardio vascular fitness based off something like a pull up!

Besides, if you go off speed, your not really testing anything, as two competitors looking to finish quickly would throw form and correct excercise mechanics right out the window!!!

Besides, even if the smaller guy finished in 10 seconds quicker time that the bigger guy with a speed of 45 seconds versus 60, do you not think that twice the weight in a 30% more time would be considered healthier???

    I got a mention there ;)

Anyone else feel lovely? I feel lovely.

That said I've been trying to get the hand of his kidneystand tricks for about 2 weeks practicing daily and it's only starting to come together now. Deadly move for dodging but christ it hurts the wrists.
