Basically, I've a website that won't show up in google. No matter what!

I've submitted it more times than I can remember, I've linked to it from about 4 other sites that are showing up in google, I've created a robots.txt file, I checked and recheck the meta tags.

It's hosted with the same company that hosts other sites that are showing in google no problem. The only thing I can see different about it is it's a .ie domain - the other sites I see coming up in google are .com's.
Should make absolutely no difference I know, and maybe it's a red herring.

    Any ideas?

    Have you looked here:

When you say you created a robots.txt file - what did you put in it. Robots.txt is generally used to stop the Googlebot indexing your page in the first place.

how long has the site been active? Google don't like multiple submissions by the way.

Sometimes can take 4 months for your site to appear.

Have you submitted your site to dmoz.org?

Indeed, Google picks it up, throws it into its big jumbling algorithm and spits it out a few months later.

I have found that some new sites may come up on say google.com or google.fr before google.ie and vice versa depending on how the juggling is going...

Spend the next few months building up the site and getting more linkbacks...

    What is the site?

Sorry lads, was in a meeting. The site is www.bywater.ie.
Still in the early stages, but there's enough there for a google-bot to work with.

I have submitted to dmoz.org. It's been active with files on it for the past 2-3 months.

What's the deal with multiple submissions?

    robots.txt...

Have you used any nefarious search engine boosting techniques like having a load of keywords the same colour as your background etc? Google tends to just ignore sites that try any dodgy methods of improving their pagerank.

I can speak from past experience here.

It can a few months before your site appears on Google. You might even find that, not long after it first appears, it may disappear again for a number of weeks. Google seems to add weight to sites that have been in existence for a certain period of time.

In the meantime, you can try submitting your site to as many open directories and portals as possible to help push up your ranking in Google. Trawl through the Search Engine Optimisation forums out there and you will find lots of links to these directories/sites.

Make sure your website is keyword heavy - e.g., if you want people to find your site through Google with the words "tours" and "ireland" make sure those very words are used as often as possible throughout your site.

    Hope this helps.

No weird or wonderful booting at all, just submitted through google's own submission page.

Strange this is, this morning I tried searching as usual - no joy. I had just put my post up here when I did another search for the site - site:www.bywater.ie in google and it did return one page from the site.

Now, however it's disappeared again! driving me nuts!!!!!
