Do Gooders Pt II, the sponsored holidays...

...Further to another thread giving about about charities that are too 'in your face', what kills me is the sponsored holiday. The person who I have never seen lift a finger for charity, never stood in the rain at a Church gate, but suddently announces that he/she will be walking through Provence/along the Great Wall of China for charity. Don't give me that crap, that's just a free trip. I would love to stroll through Provence or cycle 15 miles a day for 10 days in the Andes if other people were paying for it. On the other hand, look at the fellows travelling around Munster at the moment on lawnmowers for their friend - now THAT'S unpleasant, tedious crap and they deserve every penny. But I object strongly to any 'charity' event where the participant has to pack suncream and most of the money goes on airfares.

Like Caroline Casey who travelled around on an Elephant to raise awareness of blindness. But she wasn't blind at all.

If I could turn invisible I would punch her in the nose. (if I was a girl)

Having been to the great wall (while on holiday not sponsored or anything :)), walking from one end to the other could not exactly be classed as a holiday, great as it is.
