    Hey guys.

My family has an apartment in Marbella, in the south of Spain. LAst time he was out there, my father got Sky Digital out there. Apparently, we have all the UK channels etc, but no Irish. I was just wondering is it possible to tune them in manually down there or must we pay a subscription?

RTÉ, TG4 and TV3 are only available on a Sky subscription.

Next time you are out in Marbella bring your Irish sky card insert into box, phone sky and tell them your old box is broken and you have borrowed a new box, they will guide you through the pairing process it takes 5mins or less.
Dont tell them you are in spain, also they have caller ID so use your mobile, or block the caller ID. Depending on how much time they spend in spain it would be worth leaving the card there, its not that expensive (relative to an apartment in Marbella) Also RTE radio is free.

Which UK channels can you get? RTE is on a narrow beam that is aimed (mostly) at the UK and Ireland, you might not be able to get it in Spain.

ITV and BBC are also on this narrow beam, so if you can pick up them then you will be able to pick up RTE also, given that you have the correct subscription.

They can get it in Gibtralter and parts of Spain. It goes, comes, goes , comes in bands as you move south east.

IF you can get all the BBC & ITV FTA then you will likely get all Irish channels on an Irish Sky Sub. Dish is 1m to 3m depending on location. Some parts don't work at all.

It's called Gibraltar - one of the few things the Spanish, British and Gibraltarians can agree on. Unlike the name of those islands in the south Atlantic.

I met some Irish people who live in San Roque, and they have an Irish viewing card and pick up RTÉ and TV3. The Costa Blanca is the worst - it drops off completely. There are unlicensed MMDS operators in the area, which carry BBC and ITV, and sometimes RTÉ One.

If you have a broadband connection, you can use Blueface's VoIP service, which gives you an Irish geographic number as your Caller ID.

If you can, get a N.Irish Sky subscription. This will give you the UK channels on the EPG along with RTÉ1, RTÉ2 and TG4 also. You won't get TV3, no big loss to myself but how you rate it is up to yourself.

IIRC a dish size of about 1.5 metres can pull in Astra 2D in Gibraltar.

its at least 2m in Murcia anyway if you want a constant signal , the beam is weak around there because of the peculiar shape of the beam
