    Hi,

Am travelling to Phuket in May and wondering if I need anti-malaria medication or if that region is safe from the little blood suckers?

    Thanks.

You only need malaria tablets if you're going north of bangkok. You'll be fine on the islands

You don't need anti - malarials, nearly anywhere in Thailand, whats the north of Bangkok about?
There's usually a small outbrak now and agin but this is mainly confined to the hills/jungles of Northern Thailand but this is quite rare and you'd never be going anywhere near these parts(unless your a true adventurer) if you were even going to northern Thailand. There also does be a rare outbrat around the island of Koh Samet/ Koh Chang but these islands aren't too far from Cambodia but again its very rare and the chances of infection are zero.

Don't bother, you'll be given doxycycline which makes you extra sensitive to sunlight & makes ya feel like $hit every morning for a couple of hours! on the plus side you get amazing dreams!

Just make sure you use repellent, get sketolene or Johnson & johnson in a local shop, but chances of you getting malaria are extremely slim, although was just talking to a guy who reckons he got it last year in bangkok:rolleyes: BUT, he was an unlucky bastard anyway
