can anybody recommend the best way to do this...ie what do I need to buy..in terms of the wall.

another question,.is what is the best way to repair damaged plaster board walls,..which has various cracks
(i basically hung up a coat hanger only for it to come off,..and I have tried to repair the remaining holes,..but it still looks a bit ****)

    any help would be great.

    many thanks

You need to get plasterboard wall plugs. Different than normal wall/wrawl plugs. They are wider with a thread on them.

My missus was doing some plastering on a couple o fwalls on our new house and the result was ok. Some product available in B&Q. Kinda roll on plaster/skimming. If you need it i can find out the name but its been advertised on tv recently.

The one's I used for pictures and shelves were the 'plugs' brand. They're max wheight blue ones and the label has a picture of Tommy Walsh for Ground force on them. Buy the large pack, as much better value. The smaller amounts come in a little cute plastic box, and they cost nearly as much. And as my dear old Pappy used to say, "You can never have anough wall plugs"

The top ones are the best and easiest to use.

for lightweight pictures the standard nail-in picture hooks are fine, i've used them loads of times with no problems (get the ones with 2 nails).

obviously for anything heavy you need proper plasterboard fixings.
