    The maps coverage for Ireland is crap. As I understand it the Ordinance Survey folk are really anal about their stuff, so the coverage is really poor. In other words, it's not really worth it.

    I actually have a handheld GPS unit that I use on the sea, and connected it to my Palm to approximate what you're looking at, but I wouldn't buy something specifically for roads. On the other hand, if you can get it for £0.99, go for it!

    Not to be smart but its GPS. The satellites cover EVERY point on the face of the planet. :)

    I thought GPS required several strong signals to accurately correlate position?
    There used to be coverage problems in parts of Ireland...

    Correct however the strength of these signals is constant all over the globe at all times. http://www.garmin.com/aboutGPS/. Its not a case of Ireland having no satellites.

    The coverage issues are that the roads have not been mapped up until now, not that we do not have the satellites to cover the country.
