    Hi -

Heading to Rome for the first weekend in May and looking for a hotel in the city centre. Looking for something relatively romantic - possibly a boutique hotel. Not overly expensive and somewhere near to the monumets, etc.

Also if anyone has any suggestions on what not to miss other than the obvious things, including restaurants, tours, etc... it'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Any luck with the hotel search? I'm going on 4th to 7th June.

I stayed in Hotel Barocco, lovely hotel, friendly staff. not the cheapest! but worth the few more pennies for location. 2 metro stops from Remini Station. I walked everywhere from there. Spanish Steps a 10min walk. http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d203175-Reviews-Hotel_Barocco-Rome_Lazio.html

Some tips for Rome. I'm sure you're going to go to the Vatican City. Do NOT go to the Vatican Museum BEFORE the doors open. It's not a good idea and the queue doesn't move until doors open (around 0845-0900). go around 1100/1200, there will be a queue but at least it will move pretty quickly.

And get a good map for walking!
