The 2 Towers....

Ok, MY PC works..., I have some decent enough gear in a crappy case. The sides are gone off it and everything runs fine, but it looks ugly.

So i bought myself a fancy new black Jeantech case with a big plexiglass viewing hole in the side etc. It came with no PSU so i could use my own.

Anyway, when i transfer everything from the old to the new case, make sure everything is connected, power up, and then it posts for a second and goes into standby again.

Removed and replaced everything and made sure the mainboard was mounted properly, booted... it's posts for a second then powers down again.

I immediately though i dscrewed my mainboard. So i put everything back in my crappy tower, and booted... I'm now sending you messages from it =(

    WTF!

Make sure you aren't touching the back of the motherboard with the case, this is usually the cause. Check for shorts ;)

assemble the mobo on the mobo tray (if applicable) outside the case, preferably on a non-conductive surface such as your kitchen table.
Test until the board boots flawlessly.
Make sure each mobotray stand-off will line up with a hole in the board, you don't want them shorting it out.

    Triple check your front-panel connections.

Yeah, if it's just the case that's changed it's probably a short somewhere.

Cool, ok well it's a wierd one. There is only 2 of those screw holders in the mobo tray, and you have to slide these other ones in yourself. I added about 5 more in the second time so the mainboard was't touching the back. Could it possibly be the connectors for the front panel then?

It is entirely possible to get this type of fault by connecting the panel connectors onto the wrong pins on the Motherboard. Check and make sure the orientation and position is correct for the pwr sw , the reset sw , and the speaker if you have one.

Ok, i may have them on Backwards, or does that matter?

In terms of the pwr switch and reset switch they are common connections, meaning it doesnt matter if you have the connector reversed as its a 2 pin, but like a speaker or USB connection, you must make sure they are properly connected.

Id reckon if it is going into standby the front power switch is dodgy, it may be making a slight connection and the computer thinks you are telling it to go to standby.
Your sure its standby? Not fully powered off again.

Maybe if you tried, you could connect all case switchs etc to the mobo, while outsite the case so that you then know whats wrong. If you reckon it may be the switch disconnect it from the mobo, while its off and then just touch short the pins with a piece of wire or a long nose pliers to start the board, when you remove the wire or pliers your two power switch pins are infinate, which means there is no physical connection, if the problem still is happening, then you can out rule the switch.

All in all, my feeling is that its case related, or your connections :D
Are the pins not colour coded?

Orientation does not matter for the power and reset , but it certainly does matter if they are mistakenly placed one pin to the left or right ! very easily done by the way !
