What is the Spanish or Italian or German equivalent to

    1892 150 150

    (i.e. a pay-as-you go dial-up connection)

Would wireless be a better option to go ?

Get yourself something like this , assuming of course you dont already have an internal wireless adaptor ,

and just use wireless , it is pointless using a dial up when travelling , most hotels ,airports etc. have broadband wireless access points and in the case of most hotels is either free , or very reasonable in terms of cost , no more than a few euros for 24 hours or something like that. Simple connection instructions come with every access point.

I'd echo what andy said, though I'd be inclined to use a pcmcia adapter as they provide better reception (from what I understand).
