recabling house

Due to a DIY job in my attic going badly wrong I've been left with no NTL cable tonight so I was looking for advice on how to recable it.

I was going to go to Peats or Maplins tomorrow and buy some new cable, distance is about 10M. The existing cable is quite old except for the last bit installed by NTL themselves which actually improved the signal a bit. Generally the reception was ok but Channel 4 and Discovery was quite bad (which I believe is it being on a different band).

Just wondering what type of cable and connectors I should go for, or should I go for a pre-moulded connection? I noted that NTL seem to use RG-6 / U but noone seems to sell that. Also seeing as NTL never installed the cable in my house would I be entitled to get them to come out and fix it for free?

Satellite CT100 cable will do. (Better & in Maplin's, B&Q, Homebase etc) Make sure you get F-Connectors (if required) with larger size hole, not small ones for RG59.

No. They only do the first connection with original install. Anything else is chargable.

Thanks Watty, I'll go down to Maplins at lunch and see what I can get. For F-Connectors would I need a crimper?

Edit: Got the CT100 cable and some F-Connectors, I see they're twist ons. I'll post back with results tonight.

I laid the cable and put on the connectors but I get no signal at all. Didn't have a lot of time last night so will recheck the connections tonight and see what happens.

Edit: One of the connections had come loose due the the cable at the front of the house not being thick enough for the F connectors. When I reconnected it I checked my TV and found I had perfect recepetion! Even Channel 4 and Discovery had a perfect picture. Thanks for the recomendations Watty.

Replace that F-connector with the smaller hole type also in Maplin.

I'll have a look for that the next time I go in. Do Maplin also sell f type to the type of connection you see at the back of the TV (don't know the correct word for them)?

TV coax or "belling lee". Everywhere sells them to put on the end of Coax cable. Even Tesco. Not worth buying an adaptor. Just use one on one end of coax that plugs inot TV.

Thanks, I forgot to edit my post - I found the adapters on the Maplin site. I was using a TV coax connector, just thought the adapter might do a better job. Not important anyway as I doubt the signal could be much better now anyway :)
