Check wikipedia. To answer your question, Sparc's are RISC processors, and they can whip the crap out of x86's at equivalent megahertz.

RISC - Reduced Instruction Set Computing. Less instructions that run more efficiently, thereby giving better performance. Sun make them.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you indend using the system? It's not as if you can go out and buy software for them in PC World (not that I would for a minute condone purchasing software in PC World).

    http://www.google.com/search?q=benchmarks+sun+ultra+1+pentium

In the benchmarks I've looked at, a Pentium Pro 200 always comes in slightly ahead of a Sun Ultra-1 167MHz, so you could probably place it somewhere between a Pentium 150 and a Pentium II 266 in performance (depending on application). In fairness the Ultra 1 is an old machine - launched November 1995.

AMD K5/K6 and Pentium II were RISC cores behind x86 instruction decoders. Since then AMD and Intel moved to hybrid designs using both RISC and CISC features.
