    I just saw this thread.

@ tonym .. on the surface it sounds like you are suffering from OSA or Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In effect what is happening is that when you are asleep your air passage becomes narrow and can actually block air getting into your lungs. The snoring is you gasping for breath, it can happen hundreds of times a night. With this your blood pressure shoots up and you loose a lot of sleep.

There are other tell tale signs, such as day time tiredness, excessive head sweating at night, never really feeling like you had a good night sleep, regular passing of water during the night.

The are operations available but the sucess rate is not good at all, the most common treatment is the use of a CPAP (continious positive airway pressure) machine which regulates the flow of air to the lungs and gives you are proper night sleep. It also totally eliminates the snoring!!

I was undiagnosed for about 10 years, and have been using a CPAP for the last 7 months and it is like a new lease of life. Apart from being able to share a bed with my partner, I have so much more energy and get-up-and-go than before. Plus the risk of serious health issues later in life (heart condition, diabetis etc.. ) are reduced.

Should you feel like you are suffering from OSA, talk to your GP who can refer you to a 'sleep clinic' who can very quickly diagnose you.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
