The guy who runs it has been running card tournaments for the 10+ years that I've known him, I suggest going along, you won't be ripped off :)

Never heard of them to be honest. I used to know a guy who ran a (board) games shop in Galway called Games People Play, does it have anything to do with him.

That were actually THREE guys. One of them moved to the USA, then the other two continued for a little bit but closed. The one that moved to the USA came back to Galway and opened up a new shop called Gamers Realm. See also: www.GamersRealm.ie

He does A LOT for gaming here in Galway. Mostly Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. There's also a Sunday poker event he's involved in. Check out: Thread on Boards.ie

I don't think that they are actually called Games People Play, I think that's just a line he uses about his gaming company, but I could be wrong. It's run by a guy named Jim Brophy and he runs a lot of poker tournies around the country. I can;t give you any more details cause I don't have them, I have nothing to do with it and have never actually played one of his poker tournies, although I was at a different card game tourny he ran only last Sunday. He's a good guy, not into online advertising of his tournies though.

I know him personally. AFAIK, he has *nothing* to do with the (long gone) games shop in Galway. However, Jim Brophy is a sound guy and does a hell of a lot for the gaming community in Ireland. If he runs poker tournaments, his first intention is to run it as a gaming events. This is good, because its gonna be no big rake, 100% payout, good structure etc. I am not familiar with his poker events (only with his Magic The Gathering and Settlers of Catan events, including the Irish nationals for both), but he's the number 1 person in Ireland for running gaming events and as such, I can vouch for him.

    For clarity:

Above is Jim Neary, based in Galway. He's not involved with "Games people play events", but was one of the owners of the Games people play games shop.

Jim Brophy, the guy running "Games people play events" is based in Carlow / Dublin.
