Item never received

I won an auction on ebay on 23rd of March from a seller who had lots of positive feedback and more or less no negative.

Since I bought it the negative feedback seems to have flown in. Theres now a list of 15 negative feedbacks since Saturday of people who have won auctions but received nothing. Like me, all of the people have been trying to contact the seller but to no avail.

This is the first time I've had a bad experience with ebay and am looking for some advice on getting my money refunded. I paid by credit card (AIB) via Paypal, and am wondering whether it is easier/quicker to get this resolved through the Paypal disputes service or directly through AIB. The item was only around €45 so don't want to be paying fees for retrieving it.

    Thanks!

PayPal would be my first stop TBH.
You'll get a response pretty quickly and then see if you can/need to go to AIB then.

Yes, file a dispute with PayPal as soon as you can. If you don't get any joy from that you can file an Item Not Received dispute with eBay. You can also request the seller's contact info and give them a call. For info on how to do so, see:

Which number did you ring? PayPal customer service is located in Dublin and there's an Irish number you can ring though it does have premium rates:

    Daytime: 4.92 cent per minute
Evening or weekend: 1.26 cent per minute

i cant remeber the number i called but it was a normal number as in no 0044 in front of it or anything. it was on the paypal page though.

paypal will only refund you if there are sufficient funds in the seller paypal a/c.
If the seller has done a runner then most likely his a/c is empty.
In that case the thing to do is go direct to your credit card company and say that goods never arrived. They will send out a form which needs to be signed before chargeback will be processed.

The original poster's dilemma is a mirror image of my sole bad ebay experience (out of over 150 transactions).

The guy I was buying a DVD from had over 2,000 feedbacks, 99.8% positive. But in the space of a week (just after I sent payment) he got 157 negative feedbacks.

I lost £10 - paid by sterling draft. I don't use Paypal because I could never get clarification on what would happen if the credit card in which your Paypal account is linked to was at its limit. Could the transaction be rejected?

I'd imagine it would be. Banks process incoming transactions from PayPal just like any other transaction.

I got it sorted.. filed a report with Paypal, and after an investigation they credited me back the money.
