What do you think of the friend codes?

Was talking about this with a friend the other day, comparing (as much as you can) the set up between xbox live and nintendo wifi...

I like the way the system is set up for Nintendo, considering it's a free service it works quite well but the one issue I have is with the friend codes... while they're not a major issue it's annoying that there aren't player-assigned friend codes but rather game assigned... It complicates matters slightly (and as more and more Wifi games come out, more and more stickies will need to be made here!!!).

I wonder if the Rev will employ a similar system or will they just give each player a single player code for all games... I hope so, it wouldn't effect the ideal Nintendo have of creating a friend-only online world..

Although I can see one small advantage being that with individual friend codes you can select who you want to play on a game by game basis, rather than having someone who's good at Mario Kart ruin your Metroid experience!!

I just find it a pain in the ass that I have to have a different 12-digit code for every online game I have. It would be nice if you could just have your own unique identifier that would be the same across different games.

So now they can only stalk kiddies on a per-game basis? :D

I can appreciate the way it's set up to make it more child friendly, for example in MK there's no way for you to add someone you play randomly to your friends list... but that would still be possible with one single code... I mean, if someone gets a kiddies friend code for MK, they've done it by asking them (on boards.ie  ) so technically speaking they can do the same again for AC and Metroid etc.!

I'm thinking lately that I'm going to have to merge all the friend code threads that would have to be stickified into one big sticky when too many wifi games are released and how much of a pain in the arse it would be :(

I don't really see the harm in making a single friend code for your DS and multiple games if nintendo added a function to ban unwanted 'friends' and change your friend code if need be.
