Obviously you have no reads on the villian. Is it possible he raised originally with A-A Q-Q JJ. or even 4-4 depending on the villian. If so,your heading home after the first hand.Im not saying I could get away from it,but I dont think I could go all in first hand of a large buy-in tourney without the nuts, certainly not on a single pair.He had raised utg and it was very possible you were behind. As it transpired you were miles in front and got very unlucky. But you could have got away from it thinking it was a good laydown.
Dunno if that makes sense but without some kinda reads on players,all-in post flop on a single pair is a recipe for disaster.

a read. My read was that if he had something big he woul dhave come back over the top of me preflop, as he had done similar a few times earlier. So did not put him on the big pairs and actually had him on a small pair or KQsuited....I was close in my read and was more than willing to push AI.

I am more concerned about what else I could have done to play the hand different. Thanks for the reply too.

    V. unlucky hand, I would have done almost exactly the same. You were just out drawn by someone who shouldn't have called preflop or your all-in.

I know it was a big tournie and if you listened to Sklansky etc he would say lay it down ..to allow your skill win over time. But in my opinion ( having played all of ..........4 months now! ) I wouldn't disagree with your play. You took a chance to try and double up to 15k plus early on - an excellent spot to move on from.

I spent 3.5hrs folding cards and then going home....after playing 2 brutal hands ( my fault )...if I was given the choice I'd have taken the chance.....I have a feeling people will differ on this one....

This is a very badly disguised bad beat post.

I don't appreciate the comment. I needed to explain the play.

I am trying to get input on how differing play may or may have ensured a win rather than an early exit.

The only thing I think would have been a huge preflop bet...3000 to AI, but judging by this guys previous play and this, he probably would have called a lot of bets.

After the flop I had the right read, I don't know if others would have pushed allin at that point. I was trapping because I had confidence in my read. But I did something wrong....

Thanks for the comment, but don't make predispositons.

Well in that case fold preflop. That would ensure you wouldn't be going home.

jerk. What a disgusting excuse for a human being you are. Don;t respond if you have nothing intelligent to say....it simply proves how much of an ignorant arse you are.

I would be worried at his flop check raise, and If u call ur committed to the hand so its push or fold. I probably push here too.

Lots will come on and say u can get away from this. But for many its hindsight based theory that discounts the lure of potential double up with the premium hand we hope to hit, and all in real time ?.

This type of beat occurs more often than you think but hurts more when terminal rather than a set back. After a while you can handle these beats and they upset you less and less.

Thats my humble opinion, and I have posted several times very similar to OP.

Is this thread some kind of belated Aprils Fool joke?

You got your chips in a massive favourite and you got outdrawn. Why on earth would you want to do anything different. If you don't want to get into these situations early in a tournament then fold everything pre-flop. Easy.

Everything went perfectly, what would you rather have happen here. All the money went in when you were a solid favourite. You then were outdrawn. There's nothing to comment on here I'm afraid Niko. You got a donkey All-In with Q9 you were an 80% favourite. Then he got lucky on the River?? This will happen 2 out of every 10 times this situation arises.

    Bad Beat Sticky I'm afraid.....

you were happy when he turned over Q9, dare i say delighted... as the C kid says you got your money in with the best of it and got unlucky, it happens. same thing happened to me (in a much smaller buy in event), second hand I have KK, ten high flop when the chips go on, maniac turns over AJ and hits running jacks of all things!! nothing wrong with your play, although possibly be worried about QJ, or QQ. If he had AA he would have come over the top of your preflop raise in my opinion
