Potentially a really dumb question, but what the hell ;-)

I have a Windows 98 PC with a couple of USB 1.0 ports on it.

I have a USB 2.0 memory stick, which said Windows 98 won't recognise.

How do I get one to talk to the other? Can I just plug in a hub in between, or will windows 98 just not recognise the 2.0 device at any stage?

    Cc.

I could be wrong but i'd say the reasons that it wont work on 98 is that for 98 you'll need drivers for it to be recognised by the OS. with XP(not sure of 2k) you don't need drivers just plug it in and XP will detect it.

The makers may not have created drivers for the Key to work with 98.
The fact that its USB 2.0 makes no difference

People correct me if i'm wrong.

Again, it's drivers, you need drivers to use a USB memory stick in Win 98.

The fact that your comp is using USB 1 makes no difference, the USB 2 stick would work if it had drivers, just very ssssssssssllllllllllllloooooowwwwllllllyy.

There is no inbuilt support for USB in Win98 , that means your device will need a Win98 driver , it may not have one , you'll have to check with the manufacturer and see , either way , connecting a USB 2.0 device to a USB 1.1 port will mean that the device runs at the slower speed and not the USB 2.0 speed

Anyway here is everything you ever wanted to know about USB ,
