works the first time. unfortunately if you are like me and have taken it up twice(cancel wait for the offer to resubscribe then cancel when that offers up) when they ask you to resubscribe at half price their new policy is not to offer you half price again.

I agree with you about Sky having nothing worth watching, this is true for me as well.

We had Sky for 4 years and after a mix up on the bill, they got very, very, inflexible about what we could do to sort it out.

This led to the cancellation of the service by them despite numerous attempts to sort it out.
I thought I would suffer but I have to say a month later, I don't care.
We are in an age where half of what we orginally got on Chorus Analogue is free.
The meat and potatoes like BBC1, 2, ITV, C4 and Sky news are all up their without any bill in digital as well as another 170 channels.

We have digital TV in three rooms for free and it is only a matter of time before E4 and More 4 go FTV or FTA altogether along with Film Four.
The only one I would like other than that is maybe Sky one and with much of the Sky produced shows now going to Sky three for FREE, all you are missing is the american imports. That is what broadband is for.

As I see it Sky is for people who want Documentaries, Sport, Movies and Kids TV 24/7, there is plenty of all of that on normal TV if you really want it and to be frank I don't.
As it is, I am in no rush to re-subscribe and probably won't, E4 and More4, that's all I need to never feel the need to subscribe again.

Considering it myself too. The only thing is I was also considerig Sky+....though you can still pay the €15 a month, cant you? Not that Id want to... Also is there any possibility that Sky+ is going to be free later on?

Even with Sky box and just the free channels, theres a lot of rubbish and cancelled channels to trawl through. I know you have favourites, but even so.

I sometimes wish I had the courage to get just a dish and receiver to get free channels only, where I believe you can organize them any way you want, and you get a little pic preview on the epg??

Must check have Pioneer DVD HD recorders come down in price...!

    k

How determined must you be to cancel?

Is it possible you could get a guy who just says fine, your sky is cancelled. Bye bye! ?

I too am considering cancelling Sky.

My problem is the Kids want the Kids channels. Are there any Kids channels on FTA/FTV.

    Thanks

I do understand, Moss. Its just that, from you, its a little unexpected, as you liked Sky Sports so much....

    Anyway, not gonna pry. Onvitit.

Or on Astra 19E Kika (German), Hotbirds 13E: Al Jazzera Children's Channel (arabic) or "Smile of a Child" Religious Kids TV

If you wanted them to broaden horizons :)

Sky Sports content can be viewed elsewhere, at least the stuff i am interested in. the money spent on Sky for the year could be spent on a better system

    This is very true.

Sadly, for me, there isn't any other outlet that caters for the sport I'm most interested in.

I have to say I would love to shell out the money on a new system, I cant stand english commentary anymore.

** Willem D wanders off to do up some calculations in order to buy a new system.

    :)

I too have left Rupert but of course still have BBC/ITV etc, on sky box. I am in Cork so upgraded from Chorus analogue.(which I had for years), to Chorus Digital , costing about the same as Sky was. However the Rf out lets me tape RTE1/2 TV3/ TG4 while watching any other channel on Chorus System (about 50 maybe never counted). The RF from the chorus box also feed RTE1/2 TV3/ TG4 to the front room, I can have three feeds from the one Chorus box (2 to tv and one to VCR). Also I got a second box from Chorus for 5 euro a month extra so have the full Chorus system upstairs. So I am paying about 5 euro more a month than I used to give to Rupert and have all this. I have heard people complain about Chorus but I have had no complaints and I do not have any connection with the company, and the funny thing is that I do not watch a lot of TV but family arguments about TV are a thing of the past.

Thanks Mossy, will have a look.

Do any of the sports channels have live US Golf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

There is a FTA Golf channel on Sky. No idea what is on it. I have seen live USA golf on feed channels quite often (motorised FTA receiver and 80cm dish minimum for feeds, ideally 88, 90 or 110cm).

Nearly all golf is on Sky Sports. The Golf Channel that watty mentioned, is more or less only about lowering your handicap with aids. And a shopping channel.

If its US Tour and European Tour you are after, all are on Sky Sports only. The BBC only has 3 or 4 European Tour events, and the US Masters.
