    Millionaire,

What do you think of the Combatives definition at:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combatives ?

Looking to get an idea of what they involve and the Wik definition seems quite broad.

I had a good read to that Quillo,
and I would say its a fairly accurte description

    however...

this definition is very military focused, and tends to ignore combatives being
practiced my non army people, for street self defence as opposed to battle field stuff.

There is some good resources listed there like www.gutterfighting.org

I personally am a strong believer that this all must be backed up with good hard training, the likes of muay thai, or boxing.

I've seen a clear distinction between military unarmed combat and civilian self defence in the past - would "combatives, in the way you describe, fit somewhere in between ?

Yes, I would for me personally, Combatives would be for Civilan Self Defence.

See what do soldiers get paid to do, on a bottom line basis....Kill people. (horrible horrible thought)

military combatives would be aimed at killing the enemy. (before he kills you) see the articles I posted in other thread.

So for civilian SD, you may not want to practice the Kill stuff. (ok I know someone will argue with me on this,,,,what if he was trying to kill you etc)

Basically as I see it, combatives allow you to retaliate and get the hell away.
lee Morrissons DVD is a great example, and essentially all I practice these days is what he covers in Fightback DVD, and some of the more useful Krav Maga stuff.

I focus 90% of my time on Muay Thai, where I practice boxing alot too. this really works the combatives strikes for me also.
