Truckers planning rush-hour protest on Dublin toll bridge
    03/04/2006 - 12:37:58

Motorists using the East-Link toll bridge in Dublin this Wednesday morning are facing possible disruption due to a rush-hour protest being planned by truckers.

The demonstration, arranged by the Irish Road Haulage Association, is part of a campaign for the removal of the toll on the bridge when the Dublin Port Tunnel opens later this year.

The bridge links the south-bank quay, which is a major container-handling port, with the rest of Dublin Port.

The IRHA says its members should not have to pay a toll to cross from the south-bank quay in order to get access to the Port Tunnel.

The association also says the Department of Transport promised to lift the toll, but this had not been included in the HGV management strategy drawn up to coincide with the opening of the Port Tunnel.
