Hi, I have been offered a job for a company and am required to undertake a Medical Examination before I start. Can anyone tell me if they had to undertake a medical examination and what is involved?

    Thanks for any feedback!

I had to do one for An Post.

Blood pressure, eyesight, weight, height, urine, checking you can lift stuff properly (spinal/neck/movement test presumably) medical form (have you had operations, medical conditions etc). General questions such as do you sleep and eat properly too. Took a while to go through it all.

    Good luck.

There was a reasonably comprehensive thread about this a while back. You may find some useful information on it.

Where is this job? I did a medical today for a job but I haven't been offered a job as such in writing.

Some finance companies request medicals, they check for eye, ear blood pressure etc. There will be a urine test to c are there any drugs present in your body, if there are high levels that would suggest regular drug abuse u will definitely fail. Also check weight and ask questions about your past medical history.

What sector is the job in?

I guess if it was a physical job the u would need to be in good shape say for prison warden.

Thanks for the feedback! It's a developer position that I have been offered for a third level institute. I doubt there will be much heavy lifting. Plus it is a contract rather than a permanent position so I find it unusual, the need for a medical. I am fine physically, eat well and exercise at bit so it should be grand. The previous thread given above has also shed some more light on what's invloved. :)

took one for the army, they tested for aids, kidneys, eyes, ears, chest xray, lung capacity, heart, teeth and then just done a few movements with the doctor and then a drug test... cant imagine u'd do any more than that...

took one in Jan for a job starting in Sept.

    Very basic, took 10-15mins total:

Previous medical history, any current meds, previous visits to doc, etc
    Listen to heart and breathing.
    Weight
    Height
    Eyesight
    Checked ears
Last thing was to pee into a cup.

    Nothing to it really.

Hi I did that medical examination last week. Similar to irlrobins in the last post.

    - Previous medical history discussed
    - height
    - weight
    - Blood pressure
    - Pulse
    - Eyesight
    - Diabetes test (pee in a cup)
    that's it.

    Appreciated the feedback.
