ER - greatest episodes?

What do you think are the best episodes of the show ER?

I just finished watching one on channel 4 called "Alone in a Crowd"
Ellie Shore (Cynthia Nixon), a young mother of three, is brought in with symptoms of a potentially fatal stroke, and Kovac and Sam fight the odds to save her life and her husband must decide whether to risk her life in order to save it. Neela and Ray discover a dark secret about three children; and Carter is asked to cut his ties with Kem by Wendall.

As that synopsis says, it is about a young mother of 3 who has a stroke, leaving her slightly paralysed. She cannot communicate with anyone through word of mouth, or words on a page. Yet she is completely aware, and knows exactly what is going on around her.

It is a spectacularly well-written and acted. The very start is interesting; she can see whats going on around her, and she tries to communicate, but nobody can hear her, or understand her mumblings. Some very poignant moments.

So what are your favourite episodes of ER?

Well... I can't actually remember much about it now but there was an episode in the 1st season of ER that was called Love's Labour Lost... I remember thinking at the time, 11 or so years ago, that it was an amazing piece of television and since I still trust my judgement I'm going to go with that one.

As for more recent episodes... I'll have to get back to you on that...

There was one called Exodus that stuck in my mind.

Some disaster happened in the city and all the senior staff of the hospital were
missing and Carter stood up and was counted.

Its very old - season 4 episode 15 according to imdb.

Fairplay to ER - season 12 and its still going strong. The new episodes are still very good. Not many shows pull of that sort of longevity.

    A few spring to mind

    - The one with doug ross saving the kid from the flooded sewer,
    - The one where Carter and Lucy were stabbed by the nutcase,
    - The one where Kovache was in the Congo
    - The one with Ewan McGreggor

Excellent show - always worth a look

I love the episode when Carter and Lucy get stabbed and the following one when Lucy dies.

Ye the one where Carter was stabbed and Lucy died was an amazing two parter. Its actually what got me into the show,I then watched repeats to catch up on the seasons I missed, and Im still watching. There are so many episodes that you will probably forget many of the great ones. I think they did a live episode once, which was very good. Also,as someone mentioned, another great one was when Kovac was presumed dead and Carter went back to get his body, only to find out he had survived because the rebels thought he was a priest.

I liked the one where the doctor threw himself under a train and then got bleepered to come to his own aid as he was lying on the ER table.

Althought I'm pretty sure in reality the ER team wouldn't have been able to do anything for whatever they had scraped up from the tracks in the first place?

The one when the Helicopter fell on that pr1ck of a Doc was funny.

So many great episodes to choose from. The Congo episodes were all very good, especially when Carter goes back to find Kovac. The Ep. when Dr. Greene dies is very sad.

I think ER really improved the standards of American TV Drama.

    - Lucy and Dr. Carter getting stabbed.
    - Cynthia Nixion
    - Ray Leoto (sp?)
    - Abby's bi-polar Mother
    - Dr. Weaver meeting her long lost mother

An excellent show. I have missed this season :(

The Ewan McGreggor one was spectacular. I actually thought of that one too.. or the one that was directed by Quentin Tarantino called Motherhood http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0568048/

Never noticed Ewan McGregor in it! When did that happen.

I always seem to watch the first seven or eight of each series faithfully and then end up missing the second half of each series but usually managing to see the very last one. They do some excellent series finale cliffhangers.

I think the saddest episodes ever were Dr Greene dying and Carter's baby dying. And Michael's funeral recently had me in tears as well. There are just so many good episodes that it'd be really hard to pick one. I quite liked the one where Juliana Margulies' character was trying to get Carter's grandmother to put money into a clinic and she realised how really, really rich he was.

On a side note I was watching Coming to America (Eddie Murphy flick, the one he made to prove to people he could make a film without his main character cursing ever second word) the other night and noticed that the sleazy boyfriend with the curly hair was the guy who played Benton. Took me nearly half an hour to figure out who he was!

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - 'Over The Rainbow'
Can also be heard in the movies 'Meet Joe Black' and 'Finding Forrester'.

Some of my favourite ER's were:

'Time of Death' (2004) Ray Liotta

'Body & Soul' (2006) James Woods

I loved the Ewan McGregor one - I remember I was completely in love with him after that...

the best one i remember was when carter was graduating but instead stayed on in the hoospital to help some patient that was dying, and when it was all over he had missed his graduation but he was sitting in a quiet and empty trauma room with benton, who had given him a hard time all year, and benton gives carter his first proper doctor coat that he had made for him with his name on it, as if to say "i knew you'd make it " .

the ewan mcgregor one, wasn't that where carol was trapped in a convenience store robbery, by mcgregor and his cousin, that was a good one as well.

    Ewan?!
how did i also not know this..?
    im a crap fan :D

As most of ye have said, Carter & Lucy's stabbing was very memorable, but theres this one episode, and i cant quite remember any details..
It was probably about.. i dunno.. 4/5 series ago? im really not sure.

There was a little boy, and he fell through ice into a lake? with his brother maybe?
and in the end he survived though.. (i think)

and i cant remember if it was that same storyline (i THINK it was the same episode.. so sorry if it wasnt.. my memory is very vague on this!), a boy died, and his family didnt want to donate his organs, even though there was another patient in the hopspital who needed them to survive. but in the end they did..

I know that summary ^ is sh!te! i only saw the episode once, yeears ago, but i remember at the time thinking it was brilliant..
    hhmmm.

and of course, one of the saddest things ever, Dr. Greene dieing..

I love finding the really old episodes when theyre on, with Carol, and Doug and all that crew.

Dr. Romano appeared in 24 this series, hehe, arm attached...

Glad those 2 episodes are top, they are my best memories from watching ER. I think I gave up on the show after season 7 but it was fantastic.

Just found this thread...and it got me thinking...

My fav ER episodes are probably

Hell and High Water - The one where Doug Ross saves the kid from the storm drain

The Storm Part I & II - The one where Doug Ross leaves

Exodus - The one with the chemical spill

The season finale this year was SO good....I was shouting at my computer! Roll on September 21st!

I really like the episode where Carter and Lucy go looking for that childs dad because she needs a blood transfusion. Classic episode.

Ah, there's so many. I liked the one where there was a night shift of most of the main characters and they didn't have a single patient. I think that ep was called "Night Shift".

Also, my personal fave was the ep were Dr Greene died,a dn the folloowing one. Very emotional scenes in both episodes.

Another one that springs to Mind is where Carol is held hostage with customers in a small shop near the hospital. Very good one as well.

thats the ewan mcgregor episode, he's on of the two guys that hold up the shop, can anyone remember if it was after trainspotting?

I just saw the last season finale (season 12 I think) a few minutes ago...amazing episode. I know the quality of the show has been up and down over the last few years and its not as good as it used to be,but they do still make some great episodes, and this finale was one of them. That end scene with Abby collapsing and Luka unable to do anything was brilliantly done, with a great song as well.
