    Hi,
Is there any way to get all the messages in my inbox at my webmail.eircom.net address into my inbox in thunderbird? I wont be using the address any more but want to keep the messages in Thunderbird. Not many options at webmail.eircom.net, is the only option to forward each individual one:eek:?

    Any feedback appreciated:)

Try mailing the tech support on Eircon and asking them to mark the mail as available via pop (not sure if this is possible, worth a shot) but be prepared to have to wait, takes week or more to get an answer and then only when you mail in reminding them.

Eircons webmail interface moves the mail off the pop server (may not actually move it but they make it un-accessable via pop) the minute you open the webmail interface so if you have been using webmail you will not be able to use thunderbird to get your mail....

Had the same problem to solve for someone else and tech supports answer was: thats the way it is so use web2mail.com to check your mail instead of webmail.eircom.net. BTW Vodafone have this situation properly implemented in their interface, check via web and pop no problem, mail always there!:D

Well, while it may be true about eircons webmail, which would be a PITA. If you were just looking for eircons mail settings (to retrieve your mail in the first place), just put localhost as your outgoing server (SMTP) and mail2.eircom.net for your Incoming server (POP). What you can do is forward the mail to yourself a few messages at a time, retreive them from thunderbird and if you hit the inbox size limit, just delete the copies of your mails from webmail, and keep doing this till all your mails are retreived.

TBH if you are just backing up your mails, what I would do is this:
Open each message in webmail and copy the text of the message, including the senders address and subject into a word document. Add a Heading to the document with the message subject, add a page break and then stick the next email in after the first one, and so on. So the one word document has all your mails. For attachments, if they are images you can just add them into the word document, if they are programs or other files, you can probably add them to the word document as well but I would suggest saving them in the same folder as the word document, and then add the attachements and the word document into a ZIP file.

rogue-entity, can you clarify the setting's on Thunderbird for eircom web mail. I seem to recieve okay but the outgoing server is causing me trouble. What do you mean by local host?

I use mail1.eircom.net (under Server Settings under your eircom account in Thunderbird) as the incoming server and my isps server (whatever it maybe for you, mail.esatbb.com or whatever) as outgoing server (under Outgoing Server at the bottom of the list of options) works fine.

I used to use mail.eircom.net for pop and smtp no problem... but have to use ISPs smtp nowdays since they blocked port 25 to anything but.

Generally ISP's will only allow access to their outgoing (smtp) servers to people connecting from ip address in the ISP's range. So someone on an IBB connection, and therefore an IBB ip, can't connect to an Eircom smtp server. They must use smtp.irishbroadband.ie.

So regardless of who the email address is (eircom.net, ucd.ie, etc) you HAVE to use the smtp server provided by your ISP.

I use the Eircom smtp for my mail but I am on BT Broadband.

I'm surprised that works. Eircom def have a mail relay policy in place.

Unless of course you login to the smtp server, then they'd let you send regardless of ip.
