Ok, firstly, I'm really sorry cos I don't have the exact error, but I'll try to give you a description.

2 oldish PCs, trying to make 1 good one out of them.
There's a Fujitsu Siemens PC that has a PIII, so this is the one I'm upgrading.
It currently has 64MB SDRam in it (168pin, PC100)

So, off I went to PC World & bought 256 MB SDRam (though it was 168pin, PC133)
Took it home, put in PC & nothing worked. PC didn't come on at all, monitor light didn't even turn green.
So, I thought it must be because it's not PC100, so off I went to PC World again & bought another bit of SDRam (256MB, 168pin, PC100)

Put this in, still nothing happening with the PC.
Put one of the 32MB chips in the 1st slot & the newest 256MB chip in the 2nd slot & botted the PC.
This time the PC did come on, I turned quiet boot off so I could see what's happening.
When the PC was doing the memory check, it could see the extra ram as it was counting it, but then (& this is the bit I can't exactly remember):-
It gave an extended memory Error (Error 232:, & something about the extra memory failing or something)
If I look in the Bios, it also detects the total amount of memory (288MB as opposed to 32MB)
I googled the PC, & the maximum RAM it supports is 512MB (so this is not the issue)

(I put my two new 256MB Chips into the other old PC I have. These worked fine, straight away with no issues) (Well the only prob is that PC has a max capacity of 256MB ram, so it only read 128MB from each chip, but still, I know the chips work)

I read somewhere that Fujitsu Siemens (or perhaps only my range of PCs) use specific Ram, so generic Ram won't necessarily work.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Do you think this could be my problem? Do you know any ways around this? Or is there anything you'd like to suggest?

(Please don't come back with the likes of "Are you sure the chips are seated properly?", etc, as I'm seriously way past that stage.)

    Thanks,
Seriously wrecking my head (& pocket!!!)

yea sounds like a prob i had when i wanted to add RAM to an IBM laptop. went on shop4memory.com and ordered the correct module according to them.

Plugged it in and got the exact errors you were getting (not booting, not displaying correct amount of RAM, etc).

Turns out that even though I got the correct module in terms of spec, in order for it to work on laptop the module needed to have samsung chips on it and not infineon.

shop4memory.com swapped for the correct module and bob's ur uncle.

So maybe try contacting them explaining the problem you're having. They can contact their supplier in the States and see if they have a module that will suit ur exact machine.
